VICTOR CHANDLER CHASE GOES TO SANDOWN

The Victor Chandler Chase which was scheduled to be run on the abandoned card at Cheltenham has been re-opened and will now take place at Sandown on Saturday February 4. This rescheduling was made possible after a series of phone calls and conversations involving the sponsors VC Bet and RHT who are responsible for racing at both tracks.

VC Bet’s PR Manager Neal Wilkins commented “Over the years the Victor Chandler Chase has been an integral part of the running plans for trainers with Cheltenham Festival aspirants and we were determined to keep the race in the Racing Calendar this year. Fortunately ToteSport who are sponsoring next Saturday were prepared in the interests of racing to accept a conflict of interests and the racing industry should be indebted to them for their assistance in allowing the Victor Chandler Chase to go ahead on Saturday.

Naturally all ante-post wagers on last Saturday’s abandoned race are null and void and our book will be opened after the 5-day declarations at mid-day on Monday. Unfortunately because of Channel 4 scheduling the Victor Chandler Chase will not be shown live on terrestrial television”

He continued “After many phone calls and much chasing around, the Victor Chandler Chase will be run at Sandown next Saturday. We are obviously very disappointed in the manner the meeting was abandoned this morning but delighted that it will take place next Saturday.”

Saturday's meeting at Cheltenham was finally called off just before 10am when temperatures were still below freezing and the wind chill lower than minus three.  BHB communications manager Will Lambe said: "It is very disappointing that Saturday’s meeting was lost but we are delighted that it seems we have managed to reschedule three of the most important races.

"This would not have been possible without the assistance of the Levy Board, Victor Chandler and the racecourses themselves. The BHB tries to be as proactive as possible in these situations."  CLICK HERE

Detroit City put a disappointing debut behind him when landing the juvenile hurdle at Newbury and was introduced into the Triumph Hurdle market at 25-1 with VC Bet.

VC Bet’s Neal Wilkins commented “This was a solid performance by Detroit City and owner Terry Warner and trainer Philip Hobbs are clearly no strangers to success at the Festival having enjoyed a most convincing Champion Hurdle victory with Rooster Booster.”

BRAVE INCA CLEAR FAVOURITE FOR CHAMPION HURDLE

Brave Inca was cut from 7-2 to 5-2 clear favourite with VC Bet after his gutsy win at Leopardstown in the AIG Europe Champion Hurdle while the runner-up Macs Joy is now 6-1 from 16-1. Original favourite Hardy Eustace was pushed out from 5-2 to 6-1 but Sadlers Wingers was halved from 50-1 to 25-1 after finishing third on his first run for 609 days.

VC Bet's Neal Wilkins commented "Macs Joy appeared to be running over Brave Inca as they turned fro home but once again Brave Inca showed his tremendous battling qualities and in Tony McCoy has the perfect partner."

AL EILE LANDS GUTSY WIN

John Queally’s Al Eile showed real tenacity to overhaul Mister McGoldrick at Haydock in the Champion Hurdle trial and was slashed from 33-1 to 14-1 by VC Bet for the top prize in hurdling while the very disappointing Arcalis who was pulled up before two out was pushed out from 7-2 favourite to 8-1.

Neal Wilkins from VC Bet commented “Al Eile display real grit to catch his rival and this was a fine performance on bottomless ground on his reappearance. We have halved him in price for the ToteSport Trophy at Newbury next month from 20-1 to 10-1 and his running there under 11st 12lbs should show whether he is Champion class.”
