FIVE TEAM BETTING SYSTEM

Bob C has been beavering away at this little tactical system designed to improve our chances with multiple bets. Check it out.

If you enjoy betting accumulators but constantly fall foul of ‘the one that let me down’  (e.g. Argentina v Wales on 13 February!) , you might find this system useful.   It requires a bit of work at the beginning, but you can set up a template in Excel to  make the calculations simpler after the first attempt. I have used this to good effect  this season and had a lot of fun with it. Here’s how it works……….

You need to pick 5 teams in 5 matches.
2 teams should be strong fancies for home wins, as these will be your bankers.  Clearly, odds will be modest on these two.

Other 3 teams can be home or away and will be covered by the draw.  Write down your selections as 8 bets in the following sequences for easy reference later.  For example, let’s use following selections based on a recent midweek coupon  :-

  Team Bet 1 Bet 2 Bet 3 Bet 4 Bet 5 Bet 6 Bet 7 Bet 8

1

Poland
(Banker 1)
1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1
2 Tranmere  (Banker 2) 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1
3 Rep of Ireland 1 1 1 x x x 1 x
4 Port Vale 2 2 x 2 2 x x x
5 Greece 1 x 1 1 x 1 x x

Now you need to list the odds for your selections in each of the 8 bet columns.  From the above selections, odds were approx. as follows:-

  Team Bet 1 Bet 2 Bet 3 Bet 4 Bet 5 Bet 6 Bet 7 Bet 8
1 Poland 1.53 1.53 1.53 1.53 1.53 1.53 1.53 1.53
2 Tranmere 1.57 1.57 1.57 1.57 1.57 1.57 1.57 1.57
3 Rep of Ireland 2.20 2.20 2.20 3.25 3.25 3.25 2.20 3.25
4 Port Vale 2.25 2.25 3.25 2.25 2.25 3.25 3.25

3.25

5 Greece 2.87 3.00 2.87 2.87 3.00 2.87 3.00 3.00
6 Totals 34.12 35.67 49.29 50.41 52.69 72.82 51.52 76.17

Next, multiply out the odds for each bet (column) to find the total
(as shown in row 6).

For example, Bet 1 would be calculated:
1.53 x 1.57 x 2.20 x 2.25 x 2.87 = 34.12

In effect, the 34.12 from Bet 1 is the lowest total as you are
betting on 4/5 home wins  in this example. I like to play safe,
but you could include 2 or 3 away wins in the bet,
in which case the odds improve considerably.

Bet 8 offers the best odds as it includes 3 draws, with odds calculated:
1.53 x 1.57 x 3.25 x 3.25 x 3.00 = 76.17

You need to do this calc for each of the 8 bet columns as shown above.

Now you need to decide what your total stake will be.
This can be any amount you want (within minimum stake requirement of bookie)  but let’s say £30 total in this case. You want to spread this £30 over the 8 bets  to ensure a good return whichever bet actually wins.

To do this, you divide the total for each column (row 6 of above table)  into 10 to come up with the decimal figures shown in row 7 below and  added together to make 1.60

  Team Bet 1 Bet 2 Bet 3 Bet 4 Bet 5 Bet 6 Bet 7 Bet 8 Total
1 Poland 1.53 1.53 1.53 1.53 1.53 1.53 1.53 1.53
2 Tranmere 1.57 1.57 1.57 1.57 1.57 1.57 1.57 1.57
3 Rep of Ireland 2.20 2.20 2.20 3.25 3.25 3.25 2.20 3.25
4 Port Vale 2.25 2.25 3.25 2.25 2.25 3.25 3.25 3.25
5 Greece 2.87 3.00 2.87 2.87 3.00 2.87 3.00 3.00
6 Totals 34.12 35.67 49.29 50.41 52.69 72.82 51.52 76.17
7 10 divided by total .29 .28 .20 .19 .19 .13 .19 .13 1.60

To arrive at the figure you need to calculate your stake for each bet,
take the £30 total stake money and divide it by the 1.60 decimals total.  In our example, 30/1.60 = 18.75.

Finally, take the 18.75 and multiply it by the decimal figure for each column bet.  This gives you the exact amount to stake on each of the 8 bets  (l like to round up to nearest 50p, so total stake goes slightly over £30, to £32 here).

This gives you the total return for each bet. Take away your total stake money  and you can see your winnings at a glance. Figures are as follows in our example:-

  Team Bet 1 Bet 2 Bet 3 Bet 4 Bet 5 Bet 6 Bet 7 Bet 8
1 Poland 1.53 1.53 1.53 1.53 1.53 1.53 1.53 1.53
2 Tranmere 1.57 1.57 1.57 1.57 1.57 1.57 1.57 1.57
3 Rep of Ireland 2.20 2.20 2.20 3.25 3.25 3.25 2.20 3.25
4 Port Vale 2.25 2.25 3.25 2.25 2.25 3.25 3.25 3.25
5 Greece 2.87 3.00 2.87 2.87 3.00 2.87 3.00 3.00
6 Totals 34.12 35.67 49.29 50.41 52.69 72.82 51.52 76.17
7 10 divided by total .29 .28 .20 .19 .19 .13 .19 .13
8 £30 divided by 1.60 = 18.75
9 18.75 x decimals (row 7) = 5.43 5.24 3.74 3.57 3.57 2.45 3.57 2.45
10 Rounded up 5.50 5.50 4.00 4.00 4.00 2.50 4.00 2.50
11 Return (row 10 x row 6) 187.66 196.18 197.16 201.64 210.76 182.05 206.08 190.42
12 Less Stake -32.00 -32.00 -32.00 -32.00 -32.00 -32.00 -32.00 -32.00
13 Winnings 155.66 164.18 165.16 169.64 178.76 150.05 174.08 158.42

In our example Bet 2 was the winning line (1,1,1,2,X).
We would have cleared £164.18 for a £32.00 total stake.

You can give yourself an even better edge if you make one, or even both,  of your banker selections teams who are playing later in the week than your  other 3 or 4 selections. If, for example, you achieve 4 correct results from selections  playing on Saturday, and you have a  5th (banker) team playing on, say, Sunday,  you can either pile on to increase your winnings or cover the draw and or defeat  to protect your main bet.

This system is not foolproof and l have screwed up with it more than once.  You still have to pick the right teams not to lose and ensure that your two bankers win.   But what it does offer is cover for all those 92nd minute goals which turn a home banker  into a draw and ruin your well planned accumulator, plus a reasonable return and flexible
staking to suit all betting banks. It’s also not as complicated as it looks after you’ve done it once or twice.

I’m sure some of you more experienced guys will be aware of this system  and l can’t even claim it as my own as a friend explained it to me a while back, but l hope it will help one or two of us to cash in on our football investing.
